Leo Varadkar has given the nation a look inside his fridge as the Tanaiste shared a snap from his kitchen on Instagram this week.

The politician shared the image with his 199,000 followers on Monday, as he set out for another productive week in the Dail.

The snap shows an abundance of pre-prepped meals in lunch boxes, with the hyper organised Fine Gael leader revealing how he makes his lunches in advance to keep healthy during his busy work week.

‘Monday morning. Lunches all ready for the week ahead. Also the Kylemore cheese I picked up at our conference on Saturday,’ the Tanaiste wrote alongside the image.

Mr Varadkar has previously been open about his desire to lead a healthier lifestyle, after finding himself dissatisfied with his eating habits.

‘I used to be very overweight, I was 114 kilos with a 40-inch waist once upon a time and have managed to improve that over the years,’ he revealed back in 2019.

‘I’ve also given up alcohol for Lent which I think will help because obviously alcohol is full of sugar. After you drink a few glasses of wine, you’re much more likely to have the dessert, eat something you shouldn’t eat, but yeah and I probably do, during the day, snack on crisps and sweets.’

‘You convince yourself you’re not having a lot of them but… if I were to put them all on the one plate during the day, it would be a lot.’

Despite having the best intentions, Leo revealed how lethal he can be with the snacks, opening up about his need to steer clear of unhealthy food.

‘In theory I follow a low carb, high protein diet. In reality that’s not what happens. Largely because I’m out and about a lot. I’m not really eating at home very much,’ the Tanaiste continued.

Mr Varadkar also revealed he trains four times a week, with his workouts including weights and high-intensity training.

With a stocked fridge and an active lifestyle, it seems the Tanaiste will be back on track with his health journey in no time.
