Keke Palmer is out for revenge in the new “Alice” trailer. Inspired by true events, the upcoming thriller — written and directed by Krystin Ver Linden — tells the story of Alice (Palmer), a woman enslaved on a 19th-century plantation in Georgia. After an attempt to escape sends her running into the woods, Alice finds herself on a highway face-to-face with a semi truck. In the trailer, the truck driver, a political activist named Frank (Common), drives her into town and turns her world upside down when he informs her that it’s 1973.

“I’m not scared and that should scare you.”

Over time, Frank helps integrate her back into society — showing her the work of fellow Black activists and icons like Pam Grier in “Foxy Brown” — and watches as Alice grapples with the realities of living in the post-Civil Rights era American South. “I know exactly who I am and where I came from,” Alice tells Frank. “Who are you, then?” he asks. Alice responds, “I’m free.”

Later, in Frank’s kitchen, Alice picks up the rotary phone and calls her former owner, Paul Bennet (Jonny Lee Miller), telling him she’s ready for revenge. “You watched us get tormented. Now it’s my turn,” Alice says, before the scene cuts to her holding a gun to Bennet’s face on the plantation. “I’m not scared, and that should scare you.”

“Alice,” which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 23, is schedule for release on March 18 and will also star “Grey’s Anatomy”‘s Gaius Charles and “I Care a Lot”‘s Alicia Witt. Watch the full “Alice” trailer here.
